Custom Domains & Subdomains

Publish your website instantly to the world with custom branding and SSL encryption.

Publishing Options Overview

Sitefire offers two ways to make your website live on the web:

Option Domain Format Setup Required SSL Certificate
Free Subdomain yourname.sitefire.app Instant (0 setup) Automatic HTTPS
Custom Domain www.yourcompany.com DNS CNAME entry Automatic HTTPS (Edge SSL)

Free Subdomain Hosting

Every site created on Sitefire automatically receives a free preview and live URL ending in .sitefire.app with automatic HTTPS encryption. Draft edits are previewed in your editor first and only go live to visitors when you click Publish in the AI Chat widget.

Connecting Your Custom Domain

Custom domains are included on all upgraded plans (Starter, Pro, and Agency Partner). Follow these step-by-step instructions to connect a domain registered at Cloudflare, Namecheap, GoDaddy, Route 53, or any DNS provider:

1

Open Custom Domain Setup

In your Sitefire Dashboard, click Setup next to Custom Domain on your site card, enter your domain name (e.g., www.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com), and click Save.

2

Add DNS Records at Your Provider

Log in to your domain registrar's DNS management panel and add the following routing records:

Type Name / Host Target / Value Notes
CNAME www (or subdomain) sites.sitefire.app DNS Only (or Proxied if your zone is on Cloudflare)
CNAME / ALIAS / ANAME @ (Apex / root domain) sites.sitefire.app Requires CNAME Flattening, ALIAS, or ANAME support (e.g., Cloudflare, Route 53, DNSimple)

If shown on your Custom Domain Setup page, you can also add the optional Hostname Ownership Verification (TXT) and SSL Certificate Pre-validation (DCV) records to pre-issue your SSL certificate before cutting over live traffic.

3

Verify Status & Edge SSL Provisioning

Click Refresh & Verify Status on the Custom Domain Setup page. Once DNS propagation completes (usually within a few minutes), Sitefire automatically verifies your hostname and provisions a free Edge TLS/SSL certificate.

Migrating an Existing Domain? Set Your Origin URL: If you point your DNS to Sitefire before importing every subpage of your old site, enter your previous host's preview URL (e.g., https://your-site.squarespace.com or https://your-site.webflow.io) in the Old Site Origin / Preview URL field on the Custom Domain Setup page. Sitefire will automatically fetch any unimported subpages and assets from that origin on demand.
